Ryan graduated from Portland State University in 2002 with a B.S, in Finance. Shortly after in 2005, he graduated from Willamette University College of Law. Ryan spent approximately one year in private civil practice before joining the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office in February 2007.
For 7 years, Ryan focused on prosecuting crimes involving child physical and sexual abuse and adult sexual assault. In 2011, the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training named Ryan the Child Abuse Prosecutor of the Year. Ryan was appointed as Josephine County District Attorney in March 2015 and was elected to that position in May 2016. Ryan has tried approximately 80 cases (jury and bench trials), including murder, kidnapping, child physical and sexual abuse, assault, narcotics offenses, DUI, and theft.
